Magical Merges 1

Skill level: All
Tools Used:

Linear Fill Tool
Easy Palette

This tutorial shows how to merge various graphics into a digital piece of art. I developed my technique through trial and error after using Stephanie's Fadeout Tutorial. I really had never checked out the options for merging pictures, colors, etc, and there is very little mentioned in the PI manual.

1. Open a new window, size 400 x 400, white.

  • Select the fill tool, linear gradient.
  • Select Multiple-color from the fill method on the attributes toolbar.
  • Left click on the fill colors: Select number 058 from the palette ramp.
  • Select merge method-difference on attributes toolbar.
  • Starting from the center of the canvas, depress left mouse button, and hold down while moving mouse to upper left corner.

2. Starting from the center of the canvas, depress left mouse button, and hold down while moving mouse to upper right corner.

3. Starting from the center of the canvas, depress left mouse button, and hold down while moving mouse straight up to top of canvas.

7. Hit CTRL-A to select all.
You will have a dashed line surrounding your entire graphic.
Shift B to open Background Designer. Apply the settings shown, or whatever you like. Then click OK.

8. You now have your selection filled with an new object.

9. Open the Properties dialog box with CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER. There are 13 different choices of merge types with PI 5 and 6, and the Ulead Patch adds 6 additional choices for a total of 19. PI 7, comes with 19 as well.

10. You are now done, unless you wish to add a particle bubble. When you're happy with it, click ok. Now use Image Optimizer to save this as a jpg.
