Right Click....Huuuuh!!!
Version 6 and up
Skill level: All
Tools used: R/C ![]()
R/C. When I say this in a tutorial,
it means to access the Right Click menus. There are
four of these, depending on whether you have base
image, selection, path
object or image object
active.
Important Theorem regarding All.
Not meaning a popular Laundry Detergent, or "Everyone". All, or Ctrl A means to "Select the base image and maybe display a marquee around it." By the way, the marquee will display only if the marquee tool is set to Show Marquee (Ctrl F8). It is turned on by default. And in PhotoImpact, it is a marquee, not marching ants like in psp or photoshop. Ants don't march, soldiers do.
Corollary:
"Merge All" does not mean to "Dissolve Detergent" or hold a "Crisco Party" but to combine all objects or layers and affix them to the base image...
Base Image CTRL

R/C menu
I'm not going to go into details about these commands. These should be self explanatory, but there is an excellent help menu in PI. Note that there are not many choices here. This is because like most things in PhotoImpact, your choices expand when you have a Selection or an Object active. So let's move on.
Selection R/C menu
Now we're talking!!! With a selection,
our choices open up to almost every
combination.
You should note that in these first
two R/C menus, theWeb Properties (Shift
Enter) box
is available. Choosing this brings
you a plethora of options to choose
from. You can change the background, edit
links if you're working on a web page,
add general info, edit slicing options
and more. And most of the selection
choices are available for you as well.
Once again, you can use the help menu
to discover more about each option.
But what if one has a path
object active?
Path Object
R/C Menu
These last two menus are my favorite choices. With a path object active, one has more than 25 commands available. I feel the power surging through the mouse when I R/C here. So should you. Properties here allows you to edit the objects' properties, rather than base image. Again, the help menu will aid you if you have questions.
Additionally, the top three choices on this menu are unavailable on the image object menu.
Image Object
R/C Menu
Last but not least, this menu is identical to the path object menu, except no path edits or wrap functions. Why? Because these are images and not paths.
I hope this little primer on R/C will help you in your quest to be the best you can be.
